Rheumatology (Greek. Ρεύμα -«stream, river», and logos - «study») – part of medicine studying diagnosis and treatment of rheumatological diseases.
Rheumatology studies diseases related to lesions of spine, joints, bones, muscles and blood vessels. It also investigates so-called system diseases (where not only musculoskeletal system but also internal organs are impaired).
Reumathologists carry out treatment of following diseases in MediClub KIDS:
■ inflammatory diseases of joints:
rheumatoid arthritis;
ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterev’s disease);
osteoarthritis;
gout;
оsteoporosis;
Reiter’s disease;
Raynaud’s disease.
■ systemic rheumatic diseases:
Systemic lupus erythematosus;
dermatomyositis;
Sjogren's disease;
Systemic scleroderma.
■ systemic vasculitis:
IgA vasculitis (Henoch-Schonlein purpura);
Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN);
Microscopic polyangiitis and etc.
Diagnosis of disease is being made basing on findings of laboratory investigations (common blood count, rheumatoid factor, uric acid, antinuclear antibodies (ANA, antibodies to nuclear antigens), C-reactive protein (CRP), antistreptolysin-O (ASLO) and others, as well as by additional investigation methods, i.e. USI, roentgenography, CT (computer tomography).
